When it comes to his work, he was a member of the Michigan Wolverines baseball team from 1983 to 1986. Close has the University of Michigan record for career home runs and runs scored. In 1986, he had a slugging percentage of.869, which is the best in Michigan baseball history.

After he finished college, Case Close was chosen in the 1986 MLB Draft. His name was chosen by the New York Yankees in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
